Homebuy is a range of low cost home ownership products for people who wish to buy a property but cannot afford to or wish to rent a property but cannot afford market rent.

Homebuy is designed for key workers and other priority groups such as local authority or housing association tenants and those identified by regional housing boards as being in priority need.

Most people assisted under the homebuy programme are first time buyers however we can also help if you need to buy a property in a situation such as a relationship breakdown or where your household has outgrown existing arrangements.

The government defined priorities for assistance under homebuy are:

  • Social tenants, either Local Authority or Housing Association Tenants
  • Those on social housing waiting lists
  • Key workers see full description of key workers below
  • Other priority groups recommended by regional housing boards, these include medical secretaries, medical receptionists, teaching assistants, learning assistants, care workers employed by Local Authorities.

  • Key workers as follows:

NHS

All clinical staff employed by the NHS except doctors and dentists.

 Education

Qualified teachers in schools and sixth form colleges, qualified lecturers in FE colleges, qualified children's social workers and qualified nursery nurses in LEA nursery schools only

 Police

Police officers and community support officers including those working for the Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) in certain areas. Some front line civilian police roles may also eligible - this varies by force

 Probation Service

Probation officers, senior probation officers, probation service officers. Trainee probation officers are eligible for discounted rent properties only.

 Local Authority

Local authority employed clinical staff, adult social workers, occupational therapists, educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, rehabilitation officers for the visually impaired and qualified nursery nurses. Local authority planners employed by the Local Planning Authority delivering statutory planning services

 Fire Fighters

Uniformed fire and rescue staff below principal level

MOD

Ministry of Defence personnel
Environmental Health
Environmental Health Officers/Practitioners
Traffic Officer
Traffic Officer staff of the Highway Agency Traffic Officer Service
HM Prison Service Employees
:Prison Officers, Nursing and other clinical staff, Instructional Officers, LEA Employed FE Teachers and Operational Support Grades
